Samala Shipyard welcomed María Jesús Lorenzana Somoza, Regional Minister for Economy and Industry of the Xunta de Galicia, to its facilities in Boiro, during a visit focused on the present and future of the shipyard, its innovation strategy and its international growth plans.
During the visit, our team had the opportunity to present the main development lines of Samala Shipyard and explain the evolution of the former Asteleiros Triñanes into a new stage focused on growth, the incorporation of new technologies and the development of increasingly competitive naval projects.
A new stage focused on growth and innovation
The transformation into Samala Shipyard represents the continuation of a long-standing shipbuilding tradition, but also a clear commitment to new technical capabilities and new markets.
Our objective is to strengthen areas such as professional GRP vessel construction, ONE-OFF projects, refit, ship repair and vessel conversion, supported by engineering, manufacturing and quality control processes designed to meet the requirements of increasingly demanding owners and operators.
During the visit, we also presented our innovation and internationalisation plan, a strategy aimed at expanding Samala Shipyard’s presence in national and international markets and consolidating the shipyard as an industrial partner capable of undertaking increasingly complex projects.
Galicia, a shipbuilding industry with global capabilities
The visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the strategic importance of the Galician shipbuilding industry, a sector characterised by a high level of technical specialisation and a strong network of shipyards, engineering companies, suppliers and organisations linked to naval construction.
At Samala Shipyard, we share this vision: combining shipbuilding experience, technological innovation and industrial capability to develop more efficient, safer vessels tailored to the real operational needs of their users.
Galicia has a world-class naval tradition and a technical ecosystem capable of competing in increasingly demanding projects involving newbuilds, conversion, repair and maintenance.
A visit with representatives from the naval and business sectors
The visit was also attended by the Mayor of Boiro, José Ramón Romero García, together with representatives from several organisations linked to the business and naval sectors.
Among those present were Javier Tilves Carballo, representing ABANCA; Ricardo Iparraguirre, from Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore; and representatives of the Official Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers of Spain (COIN), including Beatriz Spuch and Adrián Sarasquete Fernández.
The participation of public institutions, financial organisations, classification societies and naval professionals provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the future of the Galician shipbuilding industry.
Naval tradition, technology and the future
Samala Shipyard is entering this new stage while preserving the knowledge accumulated through years of naval activity in Boiro, but with a strategy clearly focused on the future.
We continue to invest in new design, manufacturing and optimisation processes, as well as in the development of professional vessels for sectors such as fishing, aquaculture, passenger transport, port services and offshore operations.
Our objective is to continue growing from Galicia with a value proposition based on durability, safety, technological innovation and the adaptation of each vessel to its real operational requirements.
