A relationship spanning more than a decade
The relationship between Ingemar and Astilleros Triñanes did not begin with this acquisition.
According to the original report, both companies had been collaborating since 2010, initially from Boiro and later from Vigo, working together on different naval projects. Over the years, that collaboration evolved from traditional wooden vessels to fishing and aquaculture vessels built in GRP.
This shared experience brought together two complementary capabilities: engineering, naval design and technical development on one side, and hands-on production knowledge and shipyard expertise on the other.
Continuing almost fifty years of shipbuilding activity
Astilleros Triñanes was founded in 1978 and has developed significant activity over the decades in vessel construction, repair and haul-out services. This new stage aims to preserve that experience and continue it under the Samala Shipyard brand.
The objective is to retain the shipyard’s production capabilities while strengthening them through new tools, processes and management systems that allow increasingly demanding projects to be undertaken.
In the repair area, the shipyard maintains a significant level of activity, with around 80 haul-outs per year, according to the figures reported in the article.
ONE-OFF construction and custom professional vessels
One of the key areas of development in this new stage is the use of ONE-OFF construction, particularly for unique vessels designed around the specific needs of each owner.
This approach allows projects to be developed without relying on a conventional series-production mould, providing greater flexibility in hull geometry, layout and operational requirements.
For Samala Shipyard, this capability is particularly well suited to projects in aquaculture, fishing, passenger transport and other professional vessel sectors, where the vessel must be designed around a specific operation.
CNC machining and production modernisation
Among the first actions planned is the incorporation of a CNC numerical control machine for cutting and milling moulds.
This technology will allow digital models to be transferred more accurately into the manufacturing process, improving repeatability and reducing deviations during construction.
The introduction of CNC machining is part of a broader strategy to modernise production and internationalise newbuild projects, strengthening the connection between engineering, digital design and manufacturing.
First projects under the Samala Shipyard brand
The new phase begins with projects already under construction.
Among the first vessels are a 20-metre aquaculture support vessel with a 7.3-metre beam, together with a second 14-metre passenger vessel.
These projects reflect Samala Shipyard’s positioning in professional vessel segments where engineering, structural robustness, operational efficiency and adaptation to real working conditions are key factors.
Investment, growth and new capabilities
The project also includes a growth plan for the shipyard.
According to the published information, Ingemar is working on expanding the team and plans to invest approximately half a million euros over the next five years to improve production and management capabilities.
The objectives also include strengthening the management area and working towards certifications related to Quality and Environmental Management, as part of a broader strategy to professionalise and reinforce the shipyard’s structure.
