Samala Shipyard welcomed Ana Núñez Velasco, Director General of the Spanish Merchant Marine, to its facilities, in a visit that gave us the opportunity to present first-hand the work we are carrying out in the construction, conversion and repair of professional vessels.
The visit was also an opportunity to share our vision of modern shipbuilding: combining shipyard experience, naval engineering, digitalisation and advanced manufacturing tools to improve precision, efficiency and control throughout every project.
Technology applied to shipbuilding
During the visit, we presented some of the technologies we are integrating into our production processes, including virtual reality and CNC machining.
Virtual reality allows us to visualise spaces and technical solutions before they are physically built, helping us review layouts, accessibility, ergonomics and design decisions at an early stage.
This is particularly valuable in conversion, refit and newbuild projects, where identifying potential interferences or operational requirements in advance can reduce later modifications during construction.
CNC machining, meanwhile, provides greater precision and repeatability in the manufacture of components, templates, moulds and other elements used during the construction process.
By combining digital tools with practical shipyard experience, we strengthen the connection between design, manufacturing and execution.
Construction, conversion and ship repair
At Samala Shipyard, we work on newbuild, conversion, maintenance, repair and refit projects for professional vessels.
Each project is developed around the real operational requirements of the vessel, with a focus on robust, durable and technically efficient solutions.
Our approach combines traditional shipbuilding expertise with digital engineering and advanced manufacturing tools, particularly in projects involving GRP, ONE-OFF construction and professional vessels.
The objective is to improve process control, reduce uncertainty during construction and provide owners and operators with technical solutions tailored to each project.

The visit was also an opportunity to highlight Galicia’s strong naval ecosystem, where shipyards, engineering companies, classification societies, suppliers and highly specialised professionals work together.
